Determining the value of your idea is not an exact science and, in the early stages, is extremely subjective. As a product achieves milestones (e.g. patent issuance, FDA approvals, etc…), the revenue potential of the product and benchmark comparisons to other products can help establish a value.
One method of avoiding the valuation dilemma is to license a product for a percentage of sales. In this fashion, you are sharing the risk/reward of the product with the company.
