About Jim Layer
Jim Layer is an engineer, innovator, entrepreneur, and the guy that can make anything.
Jim started taking apart clocks and telephones as a kid to figure out how they work and could actually put them back together without a piece missing (that impressed the girls). Jim’s exploits go back to his high school days finding two junk yard cars, one with a good front end and one with a good back end, and building one car with the two halves (not as impressive for the girls). After years as an airplane mechanic for Eastern Airlines, Jim found his way into the medical device industry and quickly made a name for himself as a guy that could prototype any medical device concept. Jim has worked in Cordis Corporation’s Advanced R&D group as well as the start-up GMP Companies and is the inventor of Laparocision®.
Meanwhile, Jim has never had just one job at a time. Jim’s entrepreneurial spirit has led him to start several businesses, including a telephone company and PFM Enterprises, which specializes in medical device prototyping.
