About Brad Slaker
Brad Slaker, BSME, MBA – Founder and CEO of DesignWise Medical
Brad Slaker has over 22 years of experience in the for-profit medical device industry split between small start-up organizations as well as large medical device firms, Boston Scientific and Zimmer Spine. Brad has acquired extensive experience in all aspects of medical device product development from concept generation, product development and refinement, regulatory submissions, quality system requirements, manufacturing development, surgeon/physician relationships, project management and the management of engineering staff and cross-functional project teams. He holds eight patents for various medical devices and has a B.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of Minnesota and his MBA from the University of St. Thomas.
About DesignWise Medical: DesignWise Medical is a unique volunteer-based nonprofit pediatric medical device organization focused on developing solutions to children’s unmet medical needs. Through the sustained involvement of pediatric clinicians, parents, sponsors, volunteers and students we are able to identify, create and deliver collaborative solutions to an underserved population. DesignWise Medical lies within the heart of the world-renowned medical device industry of the Upper Midwest with access to the regions highly regarded children’s hospitals and engineering and technical schools. DesignWise Medical is committed to changing the dynamics of the children’s medical device landscape by facilitating the collaboration of volunteer and philanthropic resources enabling us to develop pediatric medical devices at a fraction of the cost of the traditional approach to product development. By removing the predominant, financial barrier, we can ensure appropriate medical devices get made for children that need them. Since DesignWise Medical was founded in September 2008, five pediatric development projects have been touched by over 185 volunteers (including 132 higher education students) who are passionate about children and have collectively donated over 19,500 hours of their time.
